Course Description: English Literature and Composition

The College Board-endorsed AP Summer Institutes provide teachers with in-depth training in AP courses and teaching strategies. Participants engage in 30 hours of pedagogical and content-rich training led by the College Board-endorsed consultant and receive digital materials, including course outlines; content-related handouts; and student samples, scoring guidelines, and commentary for the most recent AP Exam free-response questions.

This course will provide those new to teaching AP English Lit, as well as seasoned veterans, a clear roadmap to developing an AP syllabus, creating AP-level lessons, becoming familiar with the tasks on the AP English Literature exam, and balancing the demanding paper load. It will also introduce and explain the various resources available to teachers on the AP Central website so that teachers new and experienced can navigate the site with ease and confidence. Participants will not only learn from their consultant, whose experience includes forty-six years of secondary teaching, thirteen years as an AP grader, and over thirty years as an AP consultant in English Literature, but from their colleagues whose experiences in public and private institutions can reflect great diversity in the teaching environment.

Please contact apsummerinstitute@sjfc.edu for detailed information. Because these workshops are not managed by the College Board, IACET/College Board continuing education units cannot be offered to participants. You will receive a professional development certificate for 30 hours.
